AcroMetrix is a company that is a leading producer of molecular quality control standards and controls for labs that provide clinical diagnostics and blood testing. Their range of products includes controls and standards that assist in the implementation and monitoring of diagnostic assays and they recently announced the release of their new panel, the OptiQuant-S HCV RNA Qualification. This new panel gives labs a critical component to help them better optimize their assays for Hepatitis C.
AcroMetrix’s internet-based solutions and quality control products make it easier for laboratories to validate new assays, train laboratory technicians and set standards for creating noteworthy quality control programs.
Michael Eck, President and CEO of AcroMetrix recently said, “OptiQuant-S HCV represents our continued commitment to Hepatitis C diagnostic testing. Medical laboratories utilizing the new OptiQuant-S HCV Panel will experience the benefits of a standardized product that offers consistent results with an enhanced dynamic range; and as a result reducing patient re-testing requirements and increasing savings in both labor and reagent costs.”
OptiQuant uses AcroMetrix’s proprietary technology called SynTuraÔ , which involves second generation viral RNA material that behaves in a similar manner to enveloped mammalian RNA viruses like HCV and HIV. The new SynTura technology enables the insertion of synthetic sequences into mammalian RNA viruses that are demonstrated stable in replication and capable of forming infectious RNase resistant virus particles. This system can be used to design defined RNA positive controls, quantify standards, internal controls and calibrations.
More than 75% of all liver disease cases in the world today can be attributed to viral Hepatitis B and C. 1 HCV patients are routinely monitored to detect changes in the viral load (the amount of the virus) in the patient while they’re undergoing therapy for the disease. Physicians rely on the accuracy of the viral load test results given to them by the laboratories so they can better manage and adjust any drug treatment the patient is receiving, which is what makes the use of the OptiQuant-S HCV RNA Qualification Panel so important.
